The Prophet (peace be upon him) urged raising the status and honor of women, placing them in a position that befits them. During the Farewell Pilgrimage at Arafat, he spoke about their sanctity and status, saying: "Fear Allah regarding women, for you have taken them as a trust from Allah, and you have made their private parts lawful by the word of Allah."
The Prophet (peace be upon him) grew up illiterate, not knowing how to read or write, and he died in that state. He was known among his people for his honesty and trustworthiness, and he had no knowledge of religion or the previous messages. He remained like this for forty years of his life, then the revelation came with the Qur'an that we have before us now. This Qur'an contains most of the stories of the previous messages and narrates their accounts in such detail that it seems as if he lived through them. The news contained in it is exactly as found in the Torah revealed to Moses and the Gospel revealed to Jesus. Neither the Jews nor the Christians were able to refute anything he said.
