His Manners and Ethics: The Prophet’s Forgiveness (PBUH):

The Prophet (Peace Be upon Him) was given the characteristic of forgiveness even when he was in a state of power and ability to retaliate. He (PBUH) pardoned the people of Makkah when he entered Makkah in a state of triumph, even though he was capable of punishing them. The Prophet (Peace Be upon Him) forgave them even though they persecuted him and early Muslims for thirteen years. He (PBUH) also pardoned the people of Ta’if, who harassed him when he went to call them to Islam. The Prophet (Peace Be upon Him) released the captives of Hawazan, they were 6000. He also gave new Muslims large shares out of the booty of the first battle he fought after opening Makkah. [1]
