Refuting this Suspicion

One day, while the Prophet was reciting some verses from the Quran in front of Al Ka’ba and when he finished and knelt down, all standing behind him; Muslims and polytheists knelt down.

The polytheists said as an excuse for their behaviour that Muhammad (pbuh) praised their gods ”idols” saying:

“ And those ( Ggharaneek) white birds ( that was how they used to name their idols) we need their intercession)”!

This lie was known as “The Story of (Al Gharaneek ) the white birds”.

The polytheists said that the Prophet praised their idols, and so they won’t harm him and all his followers ever again. This lie of course was spread to reach the ears of the Muslims who immigrated to Abyssinia and caused a lot of them to return back to Makkah, but they were tortured much more that before….

Imam Ibn Katheer said that those insulters depended on the following verse in accusing Muhammad (pbuh) that he was inspired by the devil to say what he did:

“Never did we send a Messenger or a Prophet before you, but when he recited the revelation or narrated or spoke, Shaitan (Satan) threw (some falsehood) in it. But Allah abolishes that which Shaitan (Satan) throws in. Then Allah establishes his revelations. and Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise" ( Al Hajj:52)

But the fact is that the previous verse was sent by Allah as a reply for those accusing the Prophet of being inspired by the devil, and insisting on the fact that all Prophets are infallible..

The correct meaning of the verse is that the devil threw those words of “ Al Gharaneek” in the hearts of the polytheists and the hypocrites and those weak believers just to distinguish those from the true believers…

“That He (Allah) may make what is thrown in by Shaitan (Satan) a trial for those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy and disbelief) and whose hearts are hardened. And certainly, the zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.) are in an opposition far-off (from the truth against Allah's Messenger and the believers).” ( Al Hajj: 53)

“And that those who have been given knowledge may know that it (this qur'an) is the truth from your lord, and that they may believe therein, and their hearts may submit to it with humility. and verily, Allah is the guide of those who believe, to the straight path. “ (Al Hajj: 54)

Some scholars said that the polytheists said that they’ve heard the Prophet praising their idols just to give excuses for their kneeling down when they heard the Quran….

“And if he (Muhammad ) had forged a false saying concerning us (Allah),* we surely should have seized him by his right hand (or with power and might),* and then certainly should have cut off his life artery (aorta),* and none of you could withhold us from (punishing) him.“

( Al Haqqah:44-47)

“Nor does he speak of (his own) desire.*It is only an inspiration that is inspired  by Allah."

 ( An Najm : 3-4)

“And when our clear verses are recited unto them, those who hope not for their meeting with us, say: bring us a Qur'an other than this, or change it. “Say (O Muhammad ): "It is not for me to change it on my own accord; I only follow that which is revealed unto me. Verily, I fear if I were to disobey my Lord, the torment of the Great Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." " ( Younes: 15)

So the one who accepts the fact that the Prophet was inspired by the devil and praised the polytheists’ idols, can not be a true believer because Muhammad’s message is to worship the One Almighty Allah.
