Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Seek refuge in Allah against the difficulties of severe calamities, attacks of misfortunes, from having an evil end and a bad fate and joys of the enemies." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

The Messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to teach his companions to repeatedly seek refuge in Allah from these evil matters so as to ensure their wellbeing. It is well known that one must use the available means as well as supplicating Allah to fulfill his needs.

It is an aspect of the false reliance on Allah to supplicate Allah without using the available means. It is clear that the true believer has to show humbleness before Allah and his inability to do anything except with the power of Allah. Hence, the Muslim shall avoid whatever leads to his destruction while supplicating Allah, so that Allah guards him against the difficulties of severe calamities. Moreover, he shall consider the good consequences if he patiently endured the trials. Please be mindful of the fact that the tests may either be with the good or the evil matters.
