Five Basic Duties of Islam

1. shahadah ( the declaration of faith ) الشهادة

2. salah ( five compulsory daily prayers ) الصلاة

3. zakah ( welfare contribution ) الزكاة

4. sawm ( fasting during ramadan ) الصوم

5. hajj ( pilgrimage to makkah ) الحج

these five duties are called “arkanul islam” or pillars of islam
